Organ Transplants - Revised Effective Date

In the Blue Light Report of July/August, the Fund stated The Trustees added organ transplants to the schedule of covered benefits. The Trustees approved a maximum lifetime transplant benefit of $200,000.00 that would become effective January 1, 2009.

The Trustees have revised the effective date to July 1, 2008.

If this benefit is used, it will reduce your overall lifetime coverage which is now $750,000.00. For participants on Medicare, coverage will be secondary to the payment provided through Medicare entitlement. Benefits will be allowed in accordance to the PIBF plan, and subject to calendar year deductibles, annual maximum, lifetime maximum as well as the co-insurance and out-of-pocket limits.

Health Reimbursement Arrangement - There To Help!

The Fund office would like to remind participants of the availability of the Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) which was created by the Trustees to help alleviate expenses incurred for various non-covered healthcare expenses. The HRA benefit is for expenses incurred from January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008. Eligible participants will receive reimbursement for medical expenses in the amount of $750 for single participants and $1,500 for family participants. Participants must submit HRA claims no later than March 31, 2009 for the calendar year 2008.

The following items can be reimbursed under your HRA account in compliance with the government's approved list of covered benefits: Medical, dental or pharmacy deductibles, co-insurance amounts in excess of the medical, dental, vision or pharmacy plan limits, vision, dental or hearing aid expense for Retirees, prescription smoking cessation medication, and orthodontics. If you are in doubt as to whether a service can be reimbursed under the HRA benefit, do not hesitate to contact the PIBF office.
